Don’t Wait!

I have been watching the news of Robin Williams’ death unfold via social media over the last week and I’ve been reading a LOT of different takes on the travesty of a life lost. Obviously there are always people who make ridiculously cruel and ignorant comments when things like this happen, but there have been …

Much Ado About Moms

MOMS come in all shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: kids. Since we were all kids once we’ve all had a mom, no matter what our relationship with her looked like. If your relationship with your mom was or is less than ideal then Mother’s Day might not be a pleasant …

Harmless Jokes?

It was anti-bullying day on Wednesday. A great movement. It’s time to be aware that bullying is a big issue and that it needs to be dealt with, but it also brought to mind some other stuff that is going on in North America that has been really bothering me lately… The Justin Bieber “loser …

I Want To Be A Better Person…But Why Does It Have To Be So HARD?!?!

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do (Romans 7:15) This verse has always kind of given me a headache. I can remember reading it over and over to myself slooooowly…trying to break it down into parts. It was almost …

Let’s Be Women Who Build

I had the pleasure of speaking with a group of women on Tuesday night. It made me really think about how things have shifted for me… I used to hate gatherings of women…it used to make me so uncomfortable being in a group of women. Everything they did always seemed so cliche. I always thought …

Overcoming Feelings of Rejection

Rejection. Everyone has experienced it in different measures and in different ways. Rejection. That “slap on the cheek” feeling.  The gut wrenching, heart breaking feeling. Maybe you remember your first taste of rejection; being picked last in gym class, not getting into the school you wanted, being turned down for a job. Maybe your first …

No More New Year’s Resolutions!

I’ve always hated New Year’s Resolutions so I was pretty relieved when I found out about this campaign that has inspired so many people to do something different. I love that the idea brings such clarity, focus and purpose throughout the year. It’s about being intentional in achieving a broader goal that speaks to a heart …

Who Cares?

Have you ever felt like nobody cares about you? like you’ve been forgotten; overlooked; cast aside? There is nothing about these feelings that is pleasant or enjoyable. Unfortunately these are things that most of us feel at some point in our lives.

Women and the Church – Part III

I am sure that these three simple blog posts (Part I & Part II) haven’t closed this issue forever. It has, after all, been a contentious one for quite sometime. I do hope that it will make you think about this issue for yourself and maybe do some further studying of your own. The conclusion that I have come to is that God created man and woman equally in his image. He has a definite plan for each in his creation. Both are loved and valued equally by God, the creator of the universe. By our disobedience to God, the relationship between men and women has fallen incredibly short of what God intended it to be. The Good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way. God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die in order to restore our relationship with him to what it was meant to be at creation. This restoration, from the words of Jesus and the apostles, can also restore our relationship to one another.

Women and the Church – Part II

When studying anything, it is often useful to start at the beginning. People are introduced in God’s creation in the book of Genesis in chapter one verses 26 and 27 when “…God said, let us make Adam in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. God created Adam in his own image; in the image of God he created him. Male and female he created them.” It is important to note here that there is no generic term for humanity in Old Testament Hebrew other than “Adam”. It is also important that the verbs to rule (kabash) and to dominate (radah) suggest the taking of the land and its stewardship. This stewardship is given to humanity as “male and female” in God’s command for “them” to “rule over” creation.
